Día Cinco – Los Dos on the Road – Bilbao/Barcelona

Reluctantly, we packed up the car, and Ella, and departed Bilbao in the north, in the direction of Barcelona in the northeast. The rainy grey of Basque Country gave way to the super windy hills of Catalunia. We motored and paused and motored some more for 7.5 hours. Including about 45 minutes on the AP-8 outside Zaragoza, crawling our way to the unfortunate discovery of a wrecked car upended on its roof, before we drove on again at speed.

We love running across an Osborn Bull.

Arriving around 5pm in Barcelona, we tap danced through our routine of parking the car in a miniscule hotel garage, unloading a mega-passel of personal parcels, checking in, acclimating the pooch for a second before taking said pooch to her business meeting, then figuring out where we’d landed in the city, exactly, and what we might see before fatigue turned to exhaustion.

We offer a pic to prove we really did eventually arrive in Barcelona.

We think it’s fair to say, simply, that we didn’t do all that much on Day 5. We blame it on travel. But you can thank us for not sharing a load of crappy out-of-focus pictures taken from the car.

But here’s some remains of the day, nevertheless…

We strolled around the Gracias neighborhood with Ella on sniffy patrol.
We ambled a few blocks from the hotel, escorting Ella on her constitutional, and were suitably wowed by the Gaudi Casa Vicens.

We did find a dog-friendly place for dinner with a really cool staff and excellent small plates at Dalt de Tot – Mushrooms in garlic, roasted peppers and seared beef… mmmm.
I’m afraid Ella’s sniffy trip is going to be for naught behind there.

More and much much more to follow on Día Seis. Til then… Saludos de Los Dos!
